Morrisons has announced plans to close 132 of McColl’s convenience stores that the supermarket recently acquired. Some 1,300 staff will be affected but they could be offered jobs elsewhere by the chain.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has provisionally approved the deal proposed by Morrisons to acquire McColl's stores. In July 2022, the CMA launched its investigation into Morrisons reported £190 million purchase of stores owned by McColl’s Retail Group Plc.
Glasgow-founded convenience store chain McColl's is on the brink of failure, as it company revealed it was "increasingly likely" it would fall into administration unless talks concerning a rescue deal proved successful.
