Terra Firma Chambers’ Budget Seminar

Terra Firma Chambers will host a Budget Seminar on Tuesday 3 December at the Mackenzie Building, Edinburgh.

Following the Chancellor’s recent statement, Philip Simpson KC and Gordon Watt will discuss the main areas of interest and relevance to Tax practitioners. Attendees will be given the chance to decide the focus of the talks in advance by selecting from the following list:

  • Corporate tax roadmap
  • VAT on private school fees
  • CGT reform re alternative finance arrangements
  • Reform of non-dom taxation
  • Air passenger duty on private jets
  • Offshore tax non-compliance
  • Additional tax relief for visual effect costs for film and TV companies

  • Raising standards in the tax advice market
  • EOTs / EBTs
  • Non-compliance in umbrella company
  • Consultation on new ways to tackle tax non-compliance
  • Changes to taxation of offshore interest
  • Consultation on changes to charity relief rules

  • Overseas pension scheme changes

A survey link will be sent to all attendees on sign-up allowing them to select up to three areas of particular interest. Philip and Gordon will discuss the most popular topics in detail and provide a summary of the key points for any others. We cannot guarantee to cover every topic selected but it is our intention to provide a general overview while focusing on the areas of most interest to attendees.

Please note that the survey will close on 25 November, but registration will still be possible after that date while spaces remain available. 

This event has been accredited for 1.5 hours of substantive law CPD by the Faculty of Advocates and is eligible for a similar award from the Law Society of Scotland for the solicitor branch of the profession. The seminar may also count towards the CPD requirements of ICAS and the CIOT.
