Glasgow-headquartered VAT & Indirect Tax Advisors (VITA), has appointed three new team members in the last five months.
The tactical recruitment drive comes alongside a year of business growth and a move to new offices, which has also been recognised by the company’s shortlisting in Tolley’s Taxation Awards 2025.
The firm, founded in 2019, specialises in VAT and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) as well as other indirect taxes. Following a 20 year career in Big Four and national firms, founder Greg McNally identified the need for independent advice that is technical, commercial, and reliable – the three core pillars behind VITA.
Over the last year the business has set out to grow not only its client base and revenues, but also to find the best advisors who would share the values of the firm. Along with continued financial growth, it has also put together a team of seven, including Tony Cochrane as associate director, Chantal Scheepers as practice manager, and Rachael Moran as VAT and indirect tax trainee.
These appointments build on the arrival of Jennifer Lockhart joining as associate director in summer 2024, and Craig Stobo as partner in Winter 2023 who brings 25 years financial services experience and is now a leading advisor on the forthcoming CBAM (a new form of environmental tax).
With these new appointments the firm has based itself in offices in Glasgow’s Baltic Chambers, but through technology and mobility is servicing clients across Scotland and the UK.
Mr McNally, managing partner at VITA, said: “We’re delighted with this nomination, as we believe it recognises what we have built in the last 12-months. One of the common themes we hear in the accountancy sector is how hard it is to bring in quality staff.
“However we’ve succeeded in this area, bringing in multiple candidates, mostly former colleagues, who buy into VITA’s culture and vision. In terms of financial growth and sustainability, we’ve deliberately built the business organically, working hard on ensuring that solid foundations are put in place.
“We now aim to transition from being one of the best kept secrets to a successful firm recognised in its industry for its culture and values, and we’ll follow our strategy and look to break through £1m annual turnover in the near future. Being nominated is somewhat of a win in itself, but we would love to win the award outright in May, and know that would fast-track our journey.”
VITA is now the largest independent firm of VAT and Indirect Tax Advisors in Scotland, with a solid roster of clients, including several multi-billion-pound revenue businesses, recognisable charities including The Royal Yacht Britannia and firms breaking new grounds such as Broker Insights. This combined with recent expansion and business success could secure the firm its first national award.
Tolley’s Taxation Awards are high-profile within the tax industry, giving firms the opportunity for peer recognition, culminating in a Ceremony and Dinner. This year the awards ceremony will take place at London’s Hilton, Park Lane where VITA hopes to celebrate their recent successes with the award, replacing last year’s category winner PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Mr Stobo, partner at VITA, said: “It’s great to be nominated – and it would be even greater to win. But regardless of the award, we’re delighted to have expanded our team and combined expertise. Our aim now is to continue on this growth trajectory for the mutual success of our clients and our business.”
