Viridor appoints former Scottish Power boss as new Scottish managing director

Recycling, resources and renewable energy company Viridor has announced the appointment of Paul Brown as its new Scottish regional managing director.

Moving from a senior role at Scottish Power Energy Networks, Mr Brown will head the Scottish recycling and resources division of a company investing £500m in Scotland.

The news is a major appointment for the company, which works with 96 per cent of Scotland’s local authorities and has recently been appointed as ‘preferred bidder’ on the £700m Clyde Valley Residual Waste Partnership.

The post of Scottish regional managing director will play a key role in the development of the Scottish business, transforming Scottish Government zero waste policy into practice.

Mr Brown, who has degrees from both the University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University, will bring over 25 years’ experience in infrastructure and energy to the position when he take up his new role on 1 February, having worked in a variety of roles in the UK and the USA across a number of sectors.

Prior to joining Viridor, Mr Brown was the network connections director for Scottish Power Energy Networks, responsible for securing over £200m of annual investments. In that capacity, he drove the improvement of the customer service, commercial, and regulatory performance of the 2,700-strong company which has bases in Scotland, England and Wales.

Former regional managing director, Colin Paterson, will continue to provide strategic leadership and the management and development of high level relationships in Scotland.
