US defence giant plans 327 new Glasgow jobs
American defence and aerospace firm Lockheed Martin has announced plans to create 327 new jobs at its new office in the Finnieston area of Glasgow.
The posts were confirmed at the opening of the facility, in the Skypark building, which has become a major commercial landmark on the Clyde, yesterday.
Lockheed Martin, which has three offices in Scotland at Edinburgh and Aberdeen as well as Glasgow, said the new jobs would be central to its international growth strategy for its information systems business.
It said Glasgow and central Scotland was “the ideal location” due to the strength of the local universities and science and technology sectors.
The new office at Skypark replaces the firm’s previous one in Glasgow at the India of Inchinnan building.
Lockheed Martin said it had created more than 50 new jobs since the beginning of the year.
Sondra Barbour, executive vice president for Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Solutions, said: “International growth is critical to the long-term growth strategy of our information systems business.
“Given the scale of local information and communications technology innovation, flagship universities and science, technology, engineering and maths initiatives, we see Glasgow and central Scotland as the ideal location to increase our UK presence.”
