TSB workers union blasts bosses over sales ‘targets’
Challenger bank TSB, which has attempted to boast of not forcing sales targets onto frontline staff, has come under fire from a union which alleges bosses were still pressuring workers with “sales expectations”.
The TSBU, which represents more than half of the bank’s 8,500 staff, said a recent survey it did of members on performance management and sales practices at TSB showed 59 per cent who responded “felt under pressure to ‘push’ products to customers”.
The union said: “The bank has made much of its move away from sales targets, but not sales expectations. Well it seems that for most staff they are one and the same thing.”
It said that 53 per cent of retail staff felt that in TSB “performance was still just about sales”.
TSB distribution director Peter Navin said it was the case that “no-one is paid more or less because of what they have sold”.
He added: “We do, however, expect our branch (staff) to talk to customers and provide an excellent customer experience.”
