Trump’s Turnberry hikes green fees to record £1,000 per person
Turnberry, the Scottish golf course owned by former US President Donald Trump, is set to become the world’s most expensive with green fees rising to £1,000 in 2025.
This significant increase, from £176 in 2014, aims to prioritise hotel guests and members over non-resident golfers who were booking peak tee times but not utilising the resort’s other facilities.
The fee per person per round will only apply to peak times before 1pm during peak season. After 1pm the fee per person will be £545, and outwith peak season the fee will be £315.
The move is part of a strategy to ensure the sustainability of the entire resort, not just the golf course.
Nic Oldham, general manager of Trump Turnberry, told Bunkered: “We were finding that a lot of people were booking up tee times during the peak times of the year but only came to play golf and then left.
“In many instances, people were choosing to play the Ailsa but stay somewhere else nearby. That meant our hotel guests were able to stay in the hotel but couldn’t get access to the course. By blocking out these peak tee times, we are able to offer greater playing opportunities to our best customers.
“Staying in the hotel and playing the Ailsa will come in some way under £1,000, so it’s better value to do it that way.”
Despite the high cost, Turnberry remains a sought-after destination, having hosted The Open four times. However, it has not been invited to do so again since Trump’s acquisition.
