Trump lends £5m to Scottish golf course amid rising losses

Donald Trump has loaned nearly £5 million to his Scottish golf course last year as the company faced mounting losses.

Trump International Golf Club Scotland, which operates an 18-hole resort in Aberdeenshire, received a £4.7m interest-free loan from DJT Holdings, the parent company owned by the former US president.

The loan came as the company’s losses nearly doubled from £738,000 in 2022 to £1.4m by the end of 2023. This occurred despite a 4.5% rise in revenue to £3.75m, driven by increased food and drink sales at the 1,400-acre estate, which features a five-star restaurant and a 15th-century castle guesthouse.

The company attributed the deepening losses to the second phase of developing a new golf course, Macleod, and rising costs from hosting a PGA tournament.

In contrast, Mr Trump’s Turnberry course saw profits rise to £3.8m, up from £186,000 the previous year, despite higher utility and labour costs.
