Mr Weisselberg and the Trump Organisation were charged with tax fraud earlier this month in a 15-fount indictment, accusing them of operating a 16-year long scheme to help executive swerve tax.

One of the company’s subsidiaries, which handles payroll functions for the Trump Organisation, had previously listed Weisselberg as holding multiple officer positions, including director, treasurer and vice president. However, he has now been replaced by Donald Trump Jr, the former president’s eldest son.

Mr Weisselberg has also lost officer positions at Trump National Golf Club and Trump International Hotels Management, The Times reports.

Despite his removal from officer positions, Weisselberg is expected to remain an employee of the Trump Organisation.

Prosecutors allege Weisselberg had the rent, utilities and garage expenses for his Manhattan apartment paid for by the company without reporting the compensation to tax authorities. They allege that other executives followed suit.

The Trump Organisation’s legal representation has denied wrongdoing by the company while both Weisselberg and the firm have pleaded not guilty.

The most serious charge facing Mr Weisselberg, grand larceny, carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. However, Trump himself has not been charged.

After the indictment, Trump told The New York Times of his chief financial officer, “I’m with him all the way.”
