TLT brings on new banking partner

Euan Cluness

TLT has strengthened its banking expertise with the recruitment of Euan Cluness as partner.

Joining TLT from Addleshaw Goddard, Mr Cluness brings over a decade of experience advising banks and borrowers on some of the most complex debt finance transactions in the UK.

Boasting in-depth experience in corporate lending, acquisition finance and debt restructuring, Mr Cluness has advised many of the UK’s largest banks including NatWest, RBS, HSBC, Barclays and Virgin Money together with a number of non-bank lenders and corporate borrowers.

As well as being recognised as a “leader in his field” in Legal 500 rankings, Mr Cluness is one of the rare go-to banking experts with experience in asset-finance lending, reflecting his unique and market-leading position in the banking sector.

At TLT, he will work with TLT’s banking and restructuring team providing commercially strategic legal guidance to all the firm’s banking clients, as well as a wide variety of businesses in the corporate marketplace.

Mr Cluness’ appointment follows a string of recent partner hires, which reinforce TLT’s position in financial services and banking. These have included the appointments of financial services regulation expert and partner Amanda Hulme, project finance specialist and partner Victoria Quek and financial services disputes partner Roger Potgieter.

Working with TLT’s national banking and restructuring team, Mr Cluness will be based in TLT’s Edinburgh office.

Peter Carney, partner in TLT’s banking and restructuring team, said: “Euan’s appointment places us at the cutting-edge of banking expertise.

“His in-depth understanding of the market, his relationships and his unrivalled experience of corporate lending will be instrumental in supporting our clients in what is an ever-changing and ever-evolving evolving landscape.”

Mr Cluness said: “”Having acted for lenders and borrowers in the Scottish corporate and leveraged finance market for almost twenty years, I was very impressed by TLT’s client roster, approach and ambition.

“I’m joining a strong team in Scotland and across the UK at a very exciting time for the firm as they look to build upon an already substantial growth period. I was also attracted by TLT’s unique culture and values, which I feel match my own and are a rare find in the legal industry.

“I look forward to working with the team to support the firm’s clients in the corporate lending and leveraged finance space during a significant time of change in the market.”
