Thorntons Investments revealed as finalists for three prestigious national awards
Thorntons Investments’ AIM IHT Portfolio Service has been shortlisted for three major industry awards.
The Dundee-based investment house has been named finalist in the ‘Best BR Investment Manager – AIM’, and ‘Best AIM Portfolio Service’ categories in the Growth Investor Awards, which recognise the role of the UK SME investment community in job and wealth creation, and Best AIM IHT Portfolio Service – DFM provider in the Investment Week Tax Efficiency Awards.
Thorntons Investments AIM IHT Portfolio Service is available to financial advisers as a model portfolio of AIM listed company shares which currently qualify for business relief (BR) if owned for two years. This is designed to help clients pass on more of their wealth to their loved ones. The company has been managing AIM portfolios on a discretionary basis since 2006 and launched its AIM model portfolio service on the Standard Life Wrap in March 2017.
Clients are invested in a portfolio of 30 to 40 carefully selected smaller companies. Over 5 years to September 30th the portfolio service has delivered a capital return of 77 per cent against an increase of 39 per cent by the FTSE AIM All-Share index.
Matt Strachan, chief investment officer at Thorntons Investments said: “We have had great success managing AIM portfolios for our private clients. A lot of work has gone into making this available to a wider audience and it is fantastic that our AIM portfolio service has received such high-level industry recognition. Our aim is to target long term growth, generate a respectable yield and try to preserve value against the inherent risk of smaller company investment.”
“We aim to select a broad range of companies with attractive businesses that should qualify for BR. Strong management is important and we make a point of speaking or meeting with portfolio company senior management at least once a year. IFAs value the benefits to their clients we offer, and we work hard to promote the concept of the AIM market and its role in fostering entrepreneurship. There is strong competition for these awards and it is a great privilege to be among some of the top investment brands in the UK.”
The awards ceremonies will take place in London in November.
