Thomson Cooper merges with specialist payroll bureau

Thomson Cooper Accountants has announced its merger with The Computer Bureau, a payroll bureau based in Glenrothes, Fife.
The move is part of a planned expansion of Dunfermline-based Thomson Cooper’s successful business support services department which provides payroll, bookkeeping and VAT services to SMEs across Scotland.
Following the merger, Computer Bureau will continue to operate from their Glenrothes office with the existing staff.
Thomson Cooper partner Elaine Cromwell, who heads up the firm’s business support department, said: “More businesses are seeing the benefits of outsourcing certain business functions to specialist suppliers, especially payroll. With ever increasing legislation and regulation, clients know their payroll will be compliant. Outsourcing eliminates the need for an internal payroll function in many businesses, with no need to worry about holiday or sickness cover. The investment in our team and their ability to deliver a high-quality service has led to substantial growth in our department. The merger strengthens our offering with combined experience and increased capacity.”
Thomson Cooper managing partner David Walker added: “This opportunity fulfils our strategic ambitions and provides clients with additional expertise. We are delighted to be working with Dorothy Imrie who has gained significant experience in the payroll industry during her extensive career. We are working closely with her team to maintain a high level of support to Computer Bureau clients during the transition period.”
