SWPL scores 17% rise in club payouts in second year
The Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) has reported record financial results for its second year, with payments to clubs totalling £389,000, a 17% rise on the previous year.
This includes £304,000 in club fees and £85,000 in prize money from the Sky Sports Cup.
Fiona McIntyre, SWPL managing director, said: “These are exceptionally strong figures for the second full season of the SWPL and are yet again a testament to the hard work of our clubs to advance women’s football in Scotland.
“These record figures have been supported by key partnerships. The introduction of ScottishPower as title sponsor of the league has played a significant role in supporting the growth of the SWPL, and we are delighted that they will remain principal partners and league title sponsors over the next two seasons. ScottishPower took over from inaugural league sponsors Park’s Motor Group who also remain an important partner and supporter of the SWPL.
Ms McIntyre continued: “Our broadcast partners Sky Sports, BBC ALBA, and BBC Scotland, have collectively supported the financial growth and driven the increased visibility of the SWPL. This is illustrated via our financial results and also by the recent announcement that over two million people watched the SWPL online or on television last season.
“This was also our first full season in partnership with PUMA which saw their excellent Orbita match balls becoming the official match ball of the SWPL and, for the first time ever, a bespoke SWPL match ball being designed and distributed to our clubs.
“These new and existing partnerships, alongside the appointment of our first ever Partnerships Manager, ensured we have delivered excellent results for the 2023/2024 season and are in a strong position for 2024/2025 and beyond.”
