Spirit Energy welcomes seasoned energy executive as CFO

Nick Harrison

Aberdeen-headquartered Spirit Energy has appointed Nick Harrison as CFO.

Mr Harrison joins the firm with more than three decades of experience working within the energy sector, having previously held positions with Repsol Sinopec, Talisman Energy and Shell.

Spirit Energy welcomes Mr Harrison at a pivotal time for the company as it transitions, having experienced a wealth of changes to its operations of late with the focus of the business moving towards a net zero future.

Last year the company secured it’s carbon capture licence for the repurposing of its North and South Morecambe gas fields. The aptly named project; MNZ (Morecambe Net Zero) more recently joined forces with the Peak Cluster, creating the MNZ | Peak Cluster, a partnership that will decarbonise 40% of the UK’s cement and lime industry and ensure that close to four million tonnes of CO2 emissions from vital industry within Peak Cluster will be captured and permanently stored in Spirit Energy’s MNZ carbon store each year, from 2030.

Mr Harrison said: “Spirit Energy’s clear strategy was a driver to attracting me to the company.

“The three strategic pillars covering its decommissioning work, safety and its contribution to the UK’s net zero targets through its MNZ carbon store project, really illustrate Spirit Energy as a leader in its field. I am eager to see how the company progresses in its efforts and am proud to play a role in its journey.”

Spirit Energy CEO Neil McCulloch said: “Nick is a tremendous addition to the Spirit team and Executive Committee with his wealth of experience in the oil and gas industry.

“Having spent time working globally and across an array of projects including late life assets, Nick brings excellent technical knowledge together with a first-class track record of leadership and will be an asset to our finance function.”
