Spey Bay Golf Course to be sold to cryptocurrency-funded golf community LinksDAO
LinksDAO, a community of golf enthusiasts funded by cryptocurrency, has entered into an “exclusivity agreement” to purchase Spey Bay Golf Course on the Moray coast in Scotland.
The 18-hole links style Spey Bay golf was brought to market at the start of February by joint agents Shepherd Chartered Surveyors and Strutt & Parker for an asking price of £750,000.
LinksDAO, a decentralised autonomous organisation (DAO), was founded in January 2022 with the aim of acquiring and managing golf courses. The group reportedly raised $10.5 million (£8.54m) via an NFT fundraiser on 2 January 2022. The organisation gives members a range of golfing benefits and has been working towards the goal of owning “a top golf course” since inception.
Pending completion of the deal, Golfdigest reported that the DAO’s plan is to “take what is essentially a holiday course played primarily by a local membership and make it into a destination not only for the Links membership but also for serious golfers”. The DAO is also seeking advice from architects on remodelling the course.
