Social Enterprise Scotland has appointed Douglas Westwater as its new chair.
Mr Westwater has been CEO of Community Enterprise for the past 15 years. The social enterprise provides development support to social enterprises, community groups and the wider third sector and beyond to resource them to make a difference in their communities.
His experience has given him a firm grounding in the workings of grassroots social enterprises in Scotland.
He was formally made chair of the board of the directors last Wednesday. In his new role, Mr Westwater will lead the board to ensure Social Enterprise Scotland represents the vibrant social enterprise community in Scotland.
Social Enterprise Scotland will also appoint up to three new board directors, drawn from its existing members, by the end of March.
Mr Westwater, chair of Social Enterprise Scotland, said: “Having been a supporter since its inception, it is a real privilege to be selected to serve as chair.
“Social Enterprise Scotland and the broader social enterprise sector in Scotland is at a time of severe change and unique challenges and it will be exciting to be part of the movement that is working towards a positive future.”
Chris Martin, chief executive of Social Enterprise Scotland, added: “We are delighted to welcome Douglas to the organisation and are thoroughly looking forward to working with him.
“Last year was a time of significant change, and growth, for Social Enterprise Scotland and we know he will be a great asset to the organisation and strongly believe that his skills and experience will enable him to guide the board for the journey ahead of us.”
