Revenue has sharply fallen at Donald Trump’s golf resorts in Scotland, leading to £17.6 million in losses last year, according to financial records filed with Companies House.

A financial report was written and submitted by Eric Trump, the US president’s son, who took over management of the company last year when the US president handed it over to his two sons, while retaining a financial interest.

The report attributes the poor results to Turnberry’s closure for construction and renovation work, as well as an £8 million loss due to fluctuations in the value of the pound last year.

It also reveals that revenue at the two courses fell to £9 million in 2016, down 21 per cent from £11.4 million just a year earlier.

Eric Trump wrote that Turnberry had received “excellent reviews” and its reopening would usher in an “exciting new era” for the Trump company.

Amanda Miller, a spokesperson for the Trump Organisation, declined to comment on the results.
