Number of Scottish tech start-ups jumps 77 per cent

The number of new technology companies being set up in Scotland rose by 77 per cent last year, outstripping the rate recorded throughout the UK as a whole, according to analysis by accountancy firm RSM.

The figures show that 440 software development and programming businesses were incorporated in Scotland in 2017 compared with 249 set up in 2016.

The rate recorded across the UK as a whole constituted a rise of almost 60 per cent, with a total of 10,016 software development and programming businesses incorporated in 2017, a 59 per cent increase on the 6,300 companies set up in 2016.
