Scottish financial services chief Anne Richards has been honoured with a damehood in the Queen’s birthday honours.

Ms Richards, chief executive of Fidelity International, has been recognised for services to financial services, women, education and science.

Holding nearly three decades of experience in the financial services sector, Ms Richards previously served as chief investment officer of Aberdeen Asset Management and chief executive officer of M&G Investments

Ms Richards told Investment Week: “I am delighted to receive this honour and I hope it highlights to women and those who have had little exposure to the financial services industry, the wonderful career opportunities it can offer.”

She added: “I started my education at my great local comprehensive school, had no exposure to financial services and studied electronics and electrical engineering before starting my working life as a research fellow at CERN in Switzerland.

“When I later started my business degree, I had very little understanding of how the world of finance worked but I quickly developed a love for financial markets.

“All of these opportunities helped to open the door to a long and rewarding career where I have worked with many fantastic friends and colleagues. I am grateful to work in an industry where every day we can say we are helping people to build better financial futures.”
