Dr David McElroy – CEO of Green Bioactives
Green Bioactives, a company specialising in sustainable plant-based product development via its plant cell culture technology, has secured a grant of up to £1,097,016 from Scottish Enterprise.
The grant will support an 18-month research and development initiative focused on the production and initial scale-up of natural products that are derived from plant cell culture, which will enable Green Bioactives to supply customers in waiting in the cosmetic and personal care industries.
The project will accelerate Green Bioactives’ ability to deliver sustainable, plant-based alternatives to conventionally sourced bioactives, addressing the growing industry demand for ethical and environmentally friendly ingredients.
The grant builds on Scottish Enterprise’s continued support for Green Bioactives, complementing previous funding and advisory assistance as the company expands its R&D and manufacturing capabilities.
Leah Pape, head of high growth services at Scottish Enterprise, said: “Green Bioactives is a prime example of the kind of ambitious and innovative companies we are keen to see scale-up in Scotland and we are proud to support this growth.
“By providing funding and wraparound support, we are confident we will help the company really revolutionise the skincare industry, with the benefits that will bring to the company and in turn Scotland’s economy.”
Dr David McElroy, CEO of Green Bioactives, commented: “We are incredibly grateful for Scottish Enterprise’s continued support, both financially and in helping to develop our capacity and capabilities.
“This funding allows us to accelerate progress of our innovative biomanufacturing platform, which we believe will revolutionise the sustainable production of high-value plant-derived ingredients across several industries. This grant will play a key part in ensuring we can scale our technology and bring real-world solutions to market.”
Green Bioactives is committed to developing ingredients through plant cell culture to create sustainable alternatives to traditional wild-harvesting and synthetically produced ingredients. This latest project marks a vital step in the company’s mission to deliver commercially viable, environmentally responsible solutions for global markets.
