Scottish clean energy group D2Zero has acquired flow measurement consultancy Kelton, adding further decarbonisation expertise to its 4,000-strong workforce, as it seeks to accelerate net zero emissions.

Since 1991 Kelton has been enabling leading energy businesses around the world to better understand their operations through precision system flow measurement analysis.

Underpinned by proprietary technology and software, Kelton’s real-time monitoring and data gathering provide customers with confidence in asset performance and compliance, while empowering them to implement solutions to improve efficiency, lower cost, and reduce carbon intensity.

Aberdeen-headquartered D2Zero - which has the financial backing of SCF Partners – is a business grounded in the realities of the transition, with dual focus on servicing and decarbonising the vitally important oil and gas sector, whilst accelerating the transition to renewable energy.

The group includes Score and Hydrasun – two long-established and highly-respected service businesses – and has revenues of over £500 million.

Powerstar, Nexos and Fuel Cell Systems are also part of the group, as is of Hull-based OSL Consulting Engineers, which was acquired in July.

Kelton – which is headquartered in Aberdeen and has 12 offices around the world – brings a 25 strong team of consultants into the Group.

The acquisition of Kelton is closely aligned to D2Zero’s strategy to bring together world leading, differentiated technical capabilities and align them behind a common focus on decarbonising traditional energy sources, whilst accelerating the transition to renewable energy.

It will significantly enhance the Group’s digital capabilities, and further accelerates its strategic momentum at the forefront of the energy transition.

Iain Pirie, Managing Director of Kelton said: “We are proud to announce that Kelton is now part of D2Zero. Over the past 33 years, our team has developed differentiated technology and expertise, and we are excited at the possibilities for the business as part of a Group with such a clear focus on accelerating the energy transition.”

Bob Drummond, Chief Executive Officer of D2Zero said: “We are delighted to welcome Kelton to D2Zero. The Kelton team have been helping some of the world’s most sophisticated energy businesses better understand their operations for decades with their precision measurement technology and data analytics.

“Kelton further strengthens our ability to understand and solve the complex decarbonisation challenges that our customers are facing and we look forward to helping the business thrive as part of D2Zero.”

Mr Drummond said the firm has a “strong and active pipeline” of opportunities and, supported by SCF Partners, is looking to complete further acquisitions in the coming months.

He added: “D2Zero was founded on the premise that by bringing leading and complementary decarbonisation technologies together, under a supportive infrastructure and strong leadership, we could significantly accelerate progress and deliver breakthrough innovations for the energy transition.

“SCF’s backing is helping us to grow at pace and we want D2Zero to be a platform that can turbocharge the opportunities for businesses that want to make an impact on the energy transition.”
