Scottish Dental Care Group lands multi-million-pound investment for nationwide expansion
Scottish Dental Care Group (SDCG), a provider for both NHS and private sectors, has secured another multi-million-pound investment from BGF, marking BGF’s second investment within a span of just over a year.
This investment aims to bolster the group’s acquisition plans, which are designed to increase its footprint in key urban areas throughout the country.
The Glasgow-based group, founded by brothers Philip and Christopher Friel in 2016, has experienced robust growth since BGF’s initial investment in February 2022. SDCG’s revenue has seen an over 30% increase over the past year, with its operations now extending across the Central Belt, Dumfries and Galloway, and Grampian.
The portfolio includes a total of 19 clinics, with the recent acquisition of Barrhead and Gorbals Dental Practices in Glasgow.
With the recent appointment of its first CEO, Lynn Hood, the focus of the director of dentistry, Philip Friel, has shifted towards expanding the company’s dental services, while co-founding brother Christopher Friel continues to spearhead acquisitions and group legal services as the mergers and acquisitions director.
Ms Hood said: “We welcome this additional investment from BGF which will support the momentum we currently have in implementing our ambitious plans.
“In addition to supporting acquisitions, this will support Scottish Dental Care’s ongoing investment in technology and innovations, making sure that patients get the very best service possible at every practice. We will continue to develop the fantastic culture at Scottish Dental Care as we look to grow the team and our footprint even further.”
Chris Nixon, an investor at BGF, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Scottish Dental Care with additional capital. In the past 12 months, the team has worked tirelessly to ensure the group moves forward on all fronts, including additional acquisitions, adding scanning technology, and more recently with the joining of its first CEO.
“We are excited by the future of Scottish Dental Care and believe it can become the standard bearer for high quality dental care across Scotland in the coming years.”
