Scottish Business Network forges new alliance with London Stock Exchange

A delegation of 50 business influencers from the Scottish Chambers of Commerce Network and Scottish & London-based businesses have successfully opened the markets at the London Stock Exchange.

This formed part of a series of high level business engagements organised by the Scottish Chambers of Commerce Network including a Business Reception at Westminster, meetings with influential MPs and a B2B Connections event at Dover House.

Speaking after the Market Opening, Nora Senior, Chair, Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said: “Today’s Market Open Ceremony signals the strengthening of the relationship between Scottish Chambers of Commerce Network and the London Stock Exchange Group. Our focus is to grow our economy by investing, innovating and internationalising. This new alliance is one way to enable Scottish businesses to access new funding streams and tap into collaborative business networks to drive the expansion and growth of SMEs.

“As Scotland’s largest private sector membership network, we believe that SMEs are, and will continue to be, the driving force behind a strong Scottish economy. These SMEs are often leading innovation and new technologies, which in turn brings highly skilled jobs into our economy, which fuels growth of our communities and cities. That’s why this alliance is important and we look forward to working with the London Stock Exchange in the future.”

Donald Brydon, Chairman, London Stock Exchange Group, said: “It is a pleasure to welcome the Scottish Chambers of Commerce and so many excellent Scottish businesses to London Stock Exchange this morning. I’m proud that our two organisations continue to forge ever closer ties and together, we are committed to connecting high growth Scottish companies with the global business and investment community. These businesses are driving innovation, job creation and economic prosperity up and down the country.

“LSEG already supports over 100 companies in Scotland, through our growth market AIM, our business support programme ELITE and our ‘Inspiring Companies’ reports. We look forward, together with the Scottish Chambers of Commerce, to expanding opportunities for Scottish companies in the future.”

Angus Robertson, SNP Westminster Group Leader said: “I’m delighted to be here this morning, and I thank the Scottish Chambers of Commerce for the invitation to join in opening the Market.

“Access to capital markets and, in particular the London Stock Exchange, is essential for the growth and success of Scotland’s businesses.

“In the months ahead there will be much uncertainty, and in these times it is essential that we, as politicians, approach our engagement with the Scottish Business Community with eyes open and ears listening.”
