Scottish Borders Council announces new finance and corporate governance directors

The Scottish Borders Council has confirmed the appointment of two new directors, Suzy Douglas, director of finance & procurement, and Nuala McKinlay, director of corporate governance, effective immediately.

Mrs Douglas, who has been with the council since 1999, started her career as a graduate trainee accountant and qualified as an accountant in 2002. In her previous role, she acted as the CFO when her predecessor, David Robertson, became the chief executive.

Mrs Douglas said: “I have been with the Council for many years, and have been very fortunate that I’ve been able to develop and progress my career to a senior position within the Scottish Borders.

“I’m very happy to be confirmed in post, and look forward to continuing working with the CE David Robertson and Elected Members.”

Meanwhile, Mrs McKinlay, a qualified solicitor and a Strathclyde University graduate, joined the Council 17 years ago. Having previously worked for the New Zealand Defence Force and a legal publishing company, Brookers, she brings a wealth of legal expertise to her new role.

Mrs McKinlay said: “I love the diversity of my role and am pleased I have been able to bring my experience, skill and judgement to the Scottish Borders.

“I too am pleased to have had the opportunity to progress professionally within the Council, and am delighted to have been appointed in my new role.

“I look forward to continuing working and supporting my colleagues across the Council.”

Council leader, councillor Euan Jardine, said: “I am delighted to announce the two appointments within Scottish Borders Council.

“On behalf of the elected members I would like to congratulate them on their appointments and thank them for the support they have previously given, in particular, over the last 10 months having both undertaking the roles and extra responsibilities on an interim basis.

“I look forward to continuing to work closely with them and the Corporate Management Team as we move forward.”

The appointments followed an extensive interview and selection process, conducted by a panel of senior council staff and elected members.
