Scott Dunbar takes the helm at Johnston Carmichael’s new Elgin office
Johnston Carmichael has moved into a new, state-of-the-art office in Elgin Business Park, and appointed Scott Dunbar as head of office.
The purpose-built and open plan office has now officially opened, welcoming 110 team members and representing a new chapter for the firm which was founded in Moray in 1936.
The modern 7832 sq ft premises upholds Johnston Carmichael’s ESG commitments with features including electric vehicle charging points and solar panels, with the building boasting an A-rated EPC.
Open-plan and breakout spaces will encourage collaboration amongst its people and clients, with its dynamic and tech-enabled design allowing the team to enjoy a digital-first approach to business.
Mr Dunbar takes over as head of Elgin office, succeeding Craig MacPherson, who is stepping back from the helm after leading the Elgin office for the last 15 years. Mr MacPherson will continue to focus on his client base and his board role within the firm.
Born and bred in Elgin, Mr Dunbar joined the firm in 2008 as a qualified assistant to the financial director, before progressing to financial controller. Making the move back to client facing roles in 2014, he has played an integral role in building the success of its operations.
Mr Dunbar said: “Johnston Carmichael has humble roots in Moray, and through great leadership and providing first-class advisory services to our clients, we have become a top player within the UK’s accountancy sector.
“Being born and bred in Elgin and growing up with my family using and trusting Johnston Carmichael, I am honoured to now be appointed as head of office. I will continue to build on the solid foundations laid by Craig and the senior management team, leading the sustainable growth of the firm and helping to inspire the next generation of business advisers.
“As a forward-thinking business, our new Elgin office is a fantastic space for our people with a modern and tech-enabled design. By prioritising our people, we have fostered a great culture, where our team are proud to work.”
Over the years, Johnston Carmichael has grown the headcount of the Elgin team from the original two founding partners to now in excess of 100 people, becoming one of the largest offices in its network.
Four team members have also enjoyed recent promotions. This includes Callum Hughes and Karren Emmet to audit senior, Danny Fiske to business advisory senior and Katie Hussain to business advisory manager.
Lynne Walker, CEO at Johnston Carmichael, said: “Scott has consistently shown real leadership qualities, with a proven track record of both providing exemplary advisory services to clients and fostering a positive team culture. His appointment to Head of Office is testament to this and I’d like to congratulate him on his well-deserved promotion.
“As a firm, we are sharply focused on reducing our carbon footprint and setting best-in-class ESG standards. The move in Elgin has been designed to align with the needs of our business and people and will importantly help us reduce our impact on the planet with its energy-efficient features.”
Underlining its status as a pillar of the community, the Elgin team has in recent years supported local charities including Kieran’s Legacy and Abbie’s Sparkle Foundation, collectively raising funds in excess of £5000.
