Scotland’s most expensive contemporary home has been sold to a nameless buyer.

Sitting in seven acres of grounds near the famous Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, luxurious Kirkton Park is believed to have cost up to £10 million to build.

However, after becoming embroiled in the business dealings of its former owner, the mining and property tycoon Graham Gillespie, Bank of Scotland put it on the market in January for just £3.4 million with Gillespie, a major Rangers shareholder and friend of former Ibrox supremos, Graeme Souness and Sir David Murray, owing £7 million to the lender.

The eight-bedroom Kirkton Park, which boasts a four-car garage, billiards room, spa and swimming pool, was put up for sale 11 months after Mr Gillespie moved out.

The six foot high stone wall built to house the seven acres of grounds is believed to run to nearly one mile.

And although the buyer and final selling price is not yet known, the luxury villa is believed to have sold for around £7 million.

Chris Hall of selling agents, Rettie, said: “A lot of well-known Scottish business figures went up to see it.

“However, an offer has now been accepted and the new owners will be moving in soon.”

The new owner will enjoy the luxury of no fewer than 6 bedroom suites at the property which Rettie describe as “one of Scotland’s finest contemporary homes”.
