Scotch whisky and salmon face renewed US tariffs threat

Scottish whisky and salmon fillets have been included on a list written by US officials which details the potential targets for an expanded range of goods facing tariffs.
The expanded range of good to face such tariffs is in response to EU subsidies issued to plane-manufacturer Airbus.
Scottish single malt whisky is already subject to a 25% tax after it was added to an initial round of tariffs issued by the US in October.
Shortbread and cashmere jumpers from Scotland were also amongst the £6 billion worth of exports targeted in the first tranche.
US trade officials have announced that the US is planning further tariffs because EU subsidies to Airbus were higher than previously expected.
The new list of products to face tariffs includes jam, wine, olive oil, carpets and kitchenware, the BBC reports.
The Scottish Whisky Association has voiced its discontent over the imposition of the tariffs saying that the export success of Scottish whisky was at risk if efforts were not made to remove the “damaging tariffs.”
