Salaries at Circularity Scotland come under scrutiny

Salaries at not-for-profit Circularity Scotland, which was set up to administer Scotland’s Deposit Return Scheme (DPS), have been put under scrutiny as MSP and former minister Fergus Ewing has criticised executives’ remuneration as “outrageous”.

The chief executive, David Harris, is being paid £300,000, while executives at the organisation will receive a combined £670,000 in annual salary and fees, The Scotsman reports.

The DPS, which will introduce an extra 20p charge for cans and bottles and later refunded when they are returned for recycling, is set to launch in Scotland later this year.

Critics of the scheme, including some MSPs, have called for it to be postponed, but the minister for the circular economy has insisted it will launch in August as planned.

Circularity Scotland said it communicates all senior executive salary information to its members and benchmarks it against similar posts in the industry.
