Saffery announces Edinburgh team promotions and office relocation
Following a round of promotions, acounting, audit, and tax advisory firm Saffery has signed a lease to move its Edinburgh team to new premises at 9 Haymarket Square later this year.
The new office will provide more desk and collaboration space, accommodating Saffery’s growing Edinburgh-based team comprising almost 70 people, while also being aligned with the firm’s agile working policy.
Part of the flagship mixed-use development in the heart of Edinburgh’s west end, 9 Haymarket Square is designed to high environmental and energy efficiency specifications. Rated ‘Excellent’ by BREEAM with an EPC grade A, the building has roof-mounted solar panels as well as intelligent lighting and ventilations systems.
Along with the move, the firm also announced that Sean McGinness, Saffery’s head of VAT and national tax partner, who played a leading role in the search for the new premises, has been appointed head of office for Edinburgh.
Mr McGinness is taking on the role following seven years under Elaine McInroy’s leadership.
In addition, in the firm’s audit team, Harry Kendall has been promoted from senior manager to director, while Katie Shaw has been promoted to assistant manager.
Mr Kendall has an MA in Economics from Heriot-Watt University, and initially joined Saffery’s London office as a trainee accountant in 2016, before relocating to the Edinburgh office in 2021. He provides audit, advisory and accountancy services to a wide range of corporates, not-for-profits and landed estates, as well as providing advice on financial and regulatory compliance, internal management reporting and financial forecasting.
Mr Kendall said: “I’m delighted to be making this next step with a historic firm with a modern, inclusive and forward-looking outlook. It is an exciting time at Saffery with our growth and upcoming relocation.
In 2018, Ms Shaw also graduated from Heriot-Watt University obtaining a MA in Accountancy and Finance, and joined the audit team at Saffery as a newly qualified senior in 2021. Since then, she has worked on a range of corporate and not-for-profit audits, as well as working on audits spanning many of our other Saffery offices including London and Peterborough.
Ms Shaw said: “The opportunities both locally and nationally at Saffery have allowed me to gain valuable experience. I’m delighted with my promotion to Assistant manager and look forward to working at our new home at 9 Haymarket Square later this year.”
Mr McGinness added: “This is a very exciting and busy time for the Edinburgh team.
“The move to our new premises at Haymarket Square will place us right at the heart of the city’s thriving business district, in one of its most prestigious office developments, alongside some of the most well-known and successful organisations operating in Edinburgh or anywhere.
“Our team has grown 30% over the past three years in terms of both headcount and turnover. It’s a testament to the strength of our well-established private client and landed estates practice, along with significant growth in the corporate and not-for-profit teams across audit, accounting, and tax.
“I am very pleased to be stepping into the leadership role in the Edinburgh office, and I congratulate my two colleagues Harry and Katie on their well-deserved promotions.”
