RSM UK has kicked off the New Year on a high note, welcoming 12 new trainees to its offices in Scotland and Northern Ireland this January.

The firm’s new recruits will be spread across audit, tax and consulting. The new joiners add to RSM’s record intake of 51 new trainees in the region last August, demonstrating the firm’s strategic ambition to grow its presence outside London.

Alex Tait, regional managing partner for RSM Scotland and Northern Ireland, said: “At this time of economic uncertainty, when many are making cut backs, we continue to recruit and invest in our people to achieve our long-term growth ambitions.

“Our latest trainee intake demonstrates our continuing commitment to investing in the right talent to support businesses across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

“This latest group of new trainees is a critical element of a long-term sustainable growth programme. I’ve enjoyed a tremendously rewarding career at RSM spanning 27 years, so have first-hand experience of the benefits working here brings.

“Our trainees will work with highly talented teams across a wide range of sectors and service lines. I’m looking forward to watching them grow and develop in their fledgling careers.”

The new recruits will be supported in studying for their professional ACA, AAT, ATT, ICAS, ACCA, CIA or CTA accountancy qualifications and will also benefit from a comprehensive internal development programme, focused on developing a broad range of skills and supporting wellbeing.

Last year RSM UK recruited a record 769 new students across the UK, surpassing its previous record intake in 2022 (723) by 6% as the firm continued to invest in its long-term growth plans. The majority of last year’s cohort were based outside of London, throughout the firm’s network of 31 offices stretching from Southampton up to Lerwick.

The firm’s audit practice recruited the single largest group of trainees last year, with the remaining trainees spread across tax, corporate finance, risk, restructuring advisory and consulting.

RSM’s dedication to attracting more who choose a career in professional services straight from school as an alternative to attending university remains a key focus. The firm offers trainees a range of further opportunities, from technical development to participation in charitable activity, and sponsorship of the Duke of Edinburgh Gold award.
