RBS offer £15,000 for Dumbarton branch robbery info

rbs_logoStill 80 per cent taxpayer-owned Royal Bank of Scotland has taken the unusual step of offering a reward of up to £15,000 for information relating to an armed robbery that took place at one of its West Dunbartonshire branches last week.

The incident took place on Wednesday June 17 when a man in a balaclava entered the RBS branch on High Street, Dumbarton.

He threatened staff with a knife and left the bank with a four-figure sum of money at around 9.30am.

The man is descryibed as between 5ft 10in and 6ft and of a slim to medium build. He was wearing faded jeans, a dark hooded top with the hood up and a black scarf covering his face.



RBS have made the pledge for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

Detective sergeant Stuart Gillies said: “Wednesday’s revisit to the scene was definitely worthwhile and we spoke to members of the public in the surrounding area in an attempt to gather more information about this incident.

“Our enquiries are at an early stage and I would continue to appeal to anyone who knows who is responsible to come forward.

“Somebody knows who committed this crime and we understand that RBS are offering a significant financial reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

“I would like to reassure the community that incidents of this type are very rare in the area and we will continue to work with our local partners to deter criminals and keep people safe.”
