RBS launches new entrepreneur competition

The Royal Bank of Scotland has announced the launch of a new competition to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week (16-20 November) where they’ll show new businesses, start-ups and entrepreneurs how to write a 60-second pitch, with the chance to take home £10,000.

The bank will run free virtual pitching workshops around Scotland throughout Global Entrepreneurship Week, where they’ll help participants structure, write and deliver an excellent 60-second pitch, helping them stand out from the crowd by sharing themselves or their business idea in a concise, compelling and creative way.

Businesses can get involved by signing up to a pitching event here, and submitting their final pitch via YouTube by 30 November 2020.

A panel will then select 25 finalists, who will be invited to pitch at the live Grand Final Event in early 2021 for a chance to win the grand prize of £10,000. Four runners up will also receive 6 months free coaching from Royal Bank’s Accelerator Team.

Gordon Merrylees, head of entrepreneurship, RBS, said: “A compelling pitch is one of the most important tools for any entrepreneur. Whether it’s to secure new business, attract investment or simply just to get noticed, pitching is a crucial stepping stone to success.

“We know that the current circumstances have led to thousands of people going it alone and starting their own business, and as the UK’s leading bank for start-ups we want to help every step of the way - and that’s why we’re delighted to be launching this year’s challenge, because success often starts with a great pitch. We wish everyone taking part the best of luck.”
