PwC UK has communicated to its staff that it will monitor office attendance starting in January.

The move comes as part of a stricter hybrid working policy, requiring staff to be in the office or at client sites for at least three days a week.

The Big Four firm will share employees’ individual working location data with them monthly, similar to how it handles chargeable hours. This data will also be shared with career coaches to ensure consistent policy application.

In a memo seen by the Financial Times, PwC managing partner Laura Hinton cited the importance of face-to-face interactions, explaining “by being physically together, we can offer our clients a differentiated experience and create the positive learning and coaching environment that is key to our success”.

The decision marks one of the first firm-wide changes under new senior partner Marco Amitrano. It also reflects a broader trend among larger employers seeking to increase office attendance after the pandemic-driven shift to hybrid working. Earlier this year, EY UK implemented its own office attendance monitoring system using swipe cards.
