PwC invests in new sustainable Glasgow HQ

PwC has announced it is relocating its Glasgow office to the newly refurbished Aurora building on Bothwell Street in 2025.

The firm’s 488 people based in Glasgow will move from the current office also situated on Bothwell Street.

Across two floors, and c. 26,000 sq ft of floor space, a bespoke flexible and collaborative workspace will be created to support the teams working in Glasgow in realising PwC Scotland’s strategic growth ambitions.

The building, which has undergone refurbishment, is one of Glasgow’s most sustainable offices, thanks to the retention of the facade and structure as part of the refurbishment process.

With ‘best in class’ energy efficiency, Aurora enables net zero carbon in operation and an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of ‘A+’. The ten-storey building has also achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’ accreditation.

Communal facilities within the building include a rooftop terrace and extensive cycle storage.

Just a stone’s throw from PwC Glasgow’s current home, the new location ensures the team remains in close proximity to Glasgow Central Station and key city centre bus routes - as well as being a short walk from Glasgow Queen Street Station and Buchanan Bus Station.

The office move signals continued investment in Scotland - following the 2023 refurbishment of PwC’s Edinburgh office - and underscores the UK firm’s regional presence. The firm’s regional investment aims to drive inclusion, upskilling and economic growth.

Robin McBurnie, PwC’s market senior partner for Glasgow, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that we’ve reached a key milestone in signing the lease for Aurora in Glasgow.

“The building is one of the finest examples of truly sustainable commercial space within the city centre, which was one of the key factors in our decision. We may not be moving far, but we’ll be making our new home in a building that closely aligns with our own ethos and ambitions around net zero - and that keeps our teams at the beating heart of Glasgow’s business district.

“Our move will strengthen our presence in Glasgow, allowing us to continue having a positive impact on the local market and feed into the local economy. We’re passionate about growth ambitions for Glasgow and our place in the city – our move to Aurora cements that place.”

Carl Sizer, head of markets at PwC UK, said: “Investment in cities like Glasgow is key to our regional strategy which is a fundamental part of our purpose and our success.

“It sees us leading the charge in redressing skills and productivity gaps across the UK, in order to drive long-term and sustainable growth - and aligns with our sustainability focus in Scotland which, as a region, is most impacted by the energy transition.

“It also allows us to tap into more diverse talent pools, by creating access to high quality jobs for people in a variety of locations in and around Glasgow, with a diverse range of skills and talents.

“The move in Glasgow follows on from a milestone office refurbishment in Edinburgh, signalling our commitment to - and confidence in - Scotland’s vibrant marketplace. Our close relationships with key stakeholders in Scotland and Glasgow will allow us to make the most of this investment in Scotland’s largest city.”

Ben Dickins, head of asset management (UK) at Forma Real Estate Fund, said: “Securing a global brand like PwC as our latest occupier is testament to the quality of the refurbishment work at Aurora and the building’s position in the Glasgow market.

“Occupiers are increasingly looking for highly sustainable properties with market-leading amenities to support their teams, and Aurora perfectly fits those criteria. We have had a great response to the building and the level of interest is reflected by the fact that more than one-third of Aurora is already let.”
