Pound falls to 99 euro cents
The school holidays may be over but the slump of the pound against the euro that has weighed heavy on holiday makers since June’s vote is showing no signs of easing.
And it has now emerged that two UK airports are now offering rates where one pound does not even buy a euro.
Exchange desks at Luton and Stansted airports were offering 99 euro cents for a pound, according to foreign currency specialists Caxton FX.
MoneyCorp at Stansted was offering €0.9915, while ICE’s rate at Luton was €0.990.
It came as the pound hit the lowest level for three years on Monday.
The weak pound has meant pricier holidays for millions of Britons travelling to Europe, the US and other destinations this summer. At one point on Tuesday, £1 was worth just €1.1476, its lowest level since August 2013.
Sterling has since rallied a little, with £1 buying €1.15500.
That compares with €1.30 the day before the referendum in June, and €1.42 in August 2015.
