Plans submitted for new billion pound Perth ‘community’
Springfield Properties has submitted plans for a £1 billion new community at Bertha Park, Perth.
An application for Planning Permission in Principle including a masterplan has been submitted to Perth & Kinross Council for the 3,000 home development covering an area of 333 hectares. A further detailed planning application for Phase 1 of the development has also been submitted to the council.
The proposed new community will include 25ha of land allocated for employment such as business parks, two new primary schools and secondary school, as well as shops, restaurants, medical, leisure and community facilities. The development will be built over 30 years, creating more than 2,000 new jobs as well as helping sustain hundreds more in the local area.
If approved, Phase 1 of the development will begin in 2017 with more than 1,000 new homes including private, affordable and retirement accommodation. The homes will cater for a wide range of needs with 2 bed apartments and 2, 3 and 4 bed detached and semi-detached homes. Springfield said it has taken design inspiration from Perth and the surrounding towns and villages to achieve a traditional look and feel for Bertha Park.
Careful planning has been carried out to ensure no home will be far from green space and each home will be built to be highly energy efficient, meaning lower energy bills while reducing the household’s environmental impact.
Springfield Properties chairman Sandy Adam said: “Bertha Park is an exceptional opportunity for Springfield Properties. It is one of the biggest ever developments in Perth and is an entirely new concept for us, rather than extending a community in an existing location, we are creating a new community.
“We are motivated every day by our vision to make Bertha Park an exceptional place for people to live and work. A welcoming place where there’s a home for everyone. A place where young people grow up, spread their wings, and return to have their own family.”
Plans are already in place for a new 1,100 place secondary school which will be completed in time for the 2018 academic year. A new road, the Cross Tay Link Road, will be integrated through the site, relieving local traffic congestion and providing access to Bertha Park and the new school.
