Johnston Carmichael has relocated its Dundee operations to a larger office to accommodate growth and facilitate plans to double its local workforce.

The firm has moved into a new 5,500 sq ft regional hub at the DundeeOne business centre. This is the second time the firm has moved as headcount has risen substantially from three when the firm opened its office in the city in 2019 to a total of 50 employees.

Jenn Stewart, Dundee office head and partner, said the move will support the firm’s ambitions to have more than 100 people based locally by 2030. It is also enabling the firm to increase its community engagement through initiatives ranging from the Dundee Kiltwalk to delivering financial education lessons in local schools.

She said: “The growth of the team meant we were bursting at the seams in our previous office, so we’re extremely pleased to move to a new, larger space.

“Our teams absolutely love the new space, and it’s created a culture of collaboration where they really want to come into the office. We also believe it will support the attraction of more talent to the firm in the years ahead.

“I continue to be excited, enthusiastic and optimistic about the growth of our team here in Dundee. We’ve developed into a full-service office and our aim continues to be having a team of up to 100 people working here within the next five years.”

Recent additions include the office’s second audit appointment – audit manager Finlay Maclean – who arrives from a Big Four firm and joins recent hire audit assistant manager Uthman Ahmed in the team. VAT manager Allan Easton has also joined the company, which is now one of the biggest accountancy and business advisory firms in Tayside.

The additional space has further allowed the 25 members of its team in Forfar to split their time between both offices.

The original three members of the company’s Dundee office all remain at the firm, with Jenn’s colleagues Andrew McMillan and Ryan Milne promoted to roles of tax partner and business advisory director respectively during their time in the city.

Ms Stewart added: “It’s been great to welcome new members such as Finlay and Allan to the team at such an important time for the business here.

“We’ve been in Dundee for six years now, and it’s fantastic to see how we’ve grown – both with local clients and beyond – while making a real impact in the community. We’re committed to the region and invested in its future.”

“We’re making great headway in the gaming, tech and life sciences sector in the city, and built excellent relationships with the local universities and schools – we were recently in teaching local pupils about the importance of financial planning as they move on to the next chapter of their lives.

“The new office allows us to host more of our clients here, along with many of our firm’s board meetings, given its excellent location in terms of our other offices across the UK.”

The firm launched its Dundee office in June 2019 as part of a strategic expansion of its operations. Now a key regional hub for the firm, it provides bespoke services to the city’s growing sectors, including technology and life sciences. Its expert team also supports businesses from the firm’s other key sectors including food and drink and agriculture as they harness technology to boost their operations and grow.
