Media leader McClatchie joins ICAS Council

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) has announced that Colin McClatchie has been appointed to its council as a public interest member.

Mr McClatchie’s joins the body with the experience of a prominent career in media which began with Thomson Regional Newspapers in 1971.

Over the course of 13 years, he held various management roles at the publication’s UK offices before in 1984, moving to the Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail.



There he achieved notable successes such as increasing sales in both titles in eight out of eleven years before taking a general manager role at industry giant News International Newspapers in 1995.

In 2004 he was appointed Managing Director for Scotland and Ireland at the firm.

Over the course of a decade, he led change management programmes to improve operating efficiency and increased market share of the Scottish Sun, News of the World, Times and Sunday Times Scotland.

An experienced non-executive chairman and director, Mr McClatchie currently serves as Vice President of Scottish Opera and Chair of Prescient, his mentoring and business strategy firm.

His previous non-executive appointments include Chair of Scottish Opera for seven years, Chair of St Columba’s School in Kilmacolm for four years, Chair of Glasgow UNESCO City of Music, Non-Executive Director of Dunfermline Press Group, Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Nomination & Remuneration Committees of Scottish Enterprise and Chair of the Institute of Directors Scotland.

ICAS said his new role with the body, which will run for four years, will be to “uphold the integrity and standing of the chartered accountancy profession”.

He will serve on the CAS Council with three other public interest members: Robert Black, Rhona Brankin and Dame Lin Homer.

Dame Lin’s appointment takes effect on 28 April.

Public Interest Members serve as full members of the Council and have equal voting rights with the CA Members.

Mr McClatchie said: “I was delighted to be asked to join ICAS’ Council as a Public Interest Member.

“Representing the public interest has been central to many of my previous roles, and I am pleased to be able to continue this valuable work on behalf of the accountancy profession.”

ICAS Chief Executive, Anton Colella said, “Colin’s vast experience as a business leader and a non executive director will be of great value to Council.

“He is without doubt a man of independent thought and I am sure he will make a significant contribution to the public interest agenda for ICAS.”
