Mearns & Company appoints new non-executive director

Alan Fergusson

Mearns & Company, has appointed ex Mattioli Woods and Kudos Financial services director Alan Fergusson, as a non-executive director.

Mearns said Mr Fergusson brings over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, most recently as employee benefits managing director at Mattioli Woods until May this year.

Prior to this, he was with Kudos Financial Services, which grew significantly after he and members of the management team facilitated a buy-out in 2000.

After growing organically over a period of 11 years, Kudos was sold to Mattioli Woods.

After joining the board of Mattioli Woods, Mr Fergusson was involved in a wide range of projects and opportunities including strategic development, and harmonisation of propositions around acquisitions, and served on further internal boards.

He has also been a board member at Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, and at the Worldwide Broker Network (WBN), both of which provided him with experiences across a broad range of industries and entrepreneurial led firms.

Mearns & Company said it has been growing its employee benefits corporate client base organically for many years.

Managing director Catherine Bell said: “We are very excited to welcome Alan to the team. There is a great synergy in our desire to offer the very best in employee benefits advice and services to clients.  Alan understands that the unique culture at Mearns & Company is what drives our success, and is committed to supporting us in our desire to grow while protecting our long held values. We believe that having Alan’s skills and experience in our team will place us in a strong position to develop both our business and our employee benefits offering, providing new corporate clients with an alternative to the larger, traditional employee benefit consultancies in Scotland.  We are committed to achieving excellence and delivering outstanding results to our existing and future clients.”

Mr Fergusson added: “I am delighted to be working with the management team at Mearns & Company who I have known for some time. The service delivery to clients is second to none, evidenced by the company achieving the coveted Gold Standard for Independent Financial Advice nine times since 2009. Their recent achievement of Investors in People Platinum accreditation demonstrates the high quality people practice standards that the company has, and shows they are well placed to provide employers with an outstanding calibre of service. I look forward to assisting them in evolving their business in the changing world of wealth management and employee benefits. The firm is in a great position to grow.”
