Marie Curie and KPMG receive corporate partnership award
Marie Curie and KPMG UK have scooped up a Better Society award for best partnership with a national charity.
KPMG selected Marie Curie as the firm’s National Charity Partner in 2021. The three-year partnership aims to improve end of life care for everyone through support in four key areas – fundraising, volunteering, pro bono, and thought leadership.
Through a series of initiatives, the professional services firm has so far raised over £1 million to help Marie Curie. The funds deliver 56,000 nursing hours for people living with a terminal illness, as well as providing 63,000 hours of staff volunteering time to support Marie Curie and £390,000 of strategic pro bono projects to enable Marie Curie to achieve its strategic aim of closing the gap in end of life care.
The firm’s flagship Big Walks saw KPMG colleagues take part in an annual walking challenge in support of Marie Curie. In 2023, the event series raised £320,000 for the charity while unlocking other benefits, such as positively impacting employee wellbeing, with 93% reporting an improved sense of wellbeing and 91% feeling proud to work for KPMG.
KPMG colleagues also felt that the volunteering opportunities offered within the partnership provided a sense of purpose and job satisfaction, with 95% of KPMG volunteers expressing their willingness to volunteer again.
The most popular partnership volunteering opportunity has resulted in increased retail sales for Marie Curie. The Top of the Shops challenge, where teams managed a Marie Curie charity shop for a day, has resulted in over 100 events and an additional £11,000 raised through increased sales and donations, with Marie Curie shops reporting a 10.80% increase in sales on average.
Roisin Sharkey, head of corporate responsibility at KPMG UK, said: “We are incredibly proud that our national charity partnership with Marie Curie has been recognised, testament to the thousands of KPMG colleagues who have enthusiastically engaged with the partnership through various fundraising, volunteering and pro bono initiatives.
“Marie Curie’s work has an immeasurable impact on the lives of people affected by terminal illness, death and bereavement across the UK and we’re thrilled to have been able to support the charity over the past three years.”
Caitlin Mills, senior partnerships manager at Marie Curie, added: “We are delighted to have been recognised for this award. The exceptional outcomes of the Marie Curie and KPMG partnership demonstrate KPMG colleagues’ commitment to improving end of life care across the UK.
“We have achieved mutually beneficial results and we are incredibly proud of everything we have built together.”
