M Squared set to scale to new heights after hitting £10m revenue target
Glasgow-headquartered commercial landscape and groundworks specialist M Squared has achieved an annual revenue milestone of around £10 million as it celebrates its 10-year anniversary as a business.
Since its inception 10 years ago as an ambitious business focused on providing commercial landscape and groundworks across the UK, M Squared has increased annual revenue by 40% on average and is now readying itself for a period of significant growth. The business is now targeting £25m in revenue by 2027 and aiming to grow the team to over 125 members. In addition, strategic acquisitions are currently under consideration to further expand the business’ UK footprint.
M Squared was founded by current managing director Kerr McEwan following his participation in Entrepreneurial Scotland’s Saltire Scholars programme. The business has since undergone transformational growth over the last decade with 95 team members while building an impressive track record of winning numerous high-profile contracts.
Key examples include the regeneration of Wembley Park, a sensitive restoration project at Cameron House, an expansion and restoration of Motherwell train station, and the opening of Barclays’ Glasgow campus and River Clyde regeneration project. Signalling the business’ upward trajectory, M Squared has been named in the Financial Times’ list of the 1000 Fastest Growing Companies in Europe.
As part of M Squared’s plans to accelerate growth, the business has made key senior hires this year, including the appointment of a new Purchasing & Logistics Manager, Patrick Geraghty. Alongside this team growth, Kerr also recently completed the Hunter Foundation’s prestigious Scale Up Scotland programme to help supercharge the wider growth plans for the business.
M Squared’s founder and managing director, Kerr McEwan, said: “To consistently grow our revenue over the last 10 years is not only a fantastic achievement but testament to the incredibly talented team we have assembled. I’m proud to have founded M Squared which now fills a crucial gap in the market for a service-agnostic construction business capable of adapting to the ever-changing market demands.
“With the business now well placed to significantly scale over the coming years, we are determined to achieve a minimum of 25% annual growth rate as we continue to expand our unique offering throughout the UK.”
M Squared’s first employee, Sara McEwan, who recently moved into a new head of growth role, added: “I’ve been fortunate to have a front row seat to the amazing progress the business has made over the last 10 years. From being M Squared’s first full time hire to celebrating the business’ 10th anniversary alongside a team of nearly 100, it’s clear the foundations are firmly in place to continue our incredible growth story.”
