Lufthansa holds its own in Scotland despite drop in oil and gas travel

LufthansaLufthansa maintained passenger numbers in Scotland in 2015 despite the significant drop in travel from within the offshore industries, the German airlines group has said.

More than 436,000 people used the Lufthansa Group services at Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

The figures show that around two thirds all passengers leaving the Scotland on airlines in the Lufthansa Group (Lufthansa and Brussels airlines) take advantage of the quick and easy onward connections to the airline’s worldwide network through their Frankfurt and Brussels hubs.

Announcing the figures, Christian Schindler, Lufthansa’s regional director UK, Ireland & Iceland, said: “Once again Scotland has proved to be a key market within the Lufthansa network. Despite a challenging last quarter of the year the demand for our services has remained steady proving once again that discerning travellers appreciate the way Lufthansa continues to respond to the challenges of the travel market.



“Our passengers know that when they book with the Lufthansa Group they are guaranteed to receive our high quality on-board services. The Lufthansa Group recently introduced price concept for flights in Europe offer Economy Class fare options “Light”, “Classic” and “Flex allowing passengers to select and only pay fot the services they want. In addition, the large number of Scottish passengers who take onward connections have the option to take advantage of our high quality premium economy product on long-haul services. And we will continue to offer our Scottish passengers the shortest possible onward connection times to our worldwide network through our hubs at Frankfurt and Brussels.”

In 2015 the most popular onward destinations for Lufthansa’s Scottish travellers included Singapore, Beijing, Berlin, Vienna, Houston, Prague and Milan.

Overall, the full service airlines in the Lufthansa Group (Lufthansa and Brussels Airlines) continue to be among the leading full service carriers in Scotland.
