Lorraine Kelly sees business empire worth rise to more than £3.5m
Chat show host Lorraine Kelly has seen the value of her business empire rise to more than £3.5 million after she won a legal fight with tax authorities.
The presenter’s company accounts show that last year the Albatel firm made a profit of almost £500,000 with assets of £3,680,403, The Times reports.
These included more than £2.3m in an account, more than £1m owed by debtors and an investment portfolio of over £230,000.
In March, Ms Kelly, 59, win a First-Tier Tribunal appeal against a £1.2m demand from HMRC for unpaid income tax and National Insurance Contributions after a judge accepted that there was a contract for services between her and ITV – partly on the basis she appears on television not as herself but as a persona of herself.
HMRC had made the argument that she was effectively employed by ITV despite being paid through Albatel and was thereby avoiding income tax and national insurance contributions.
