Liverpool Victoria Group chief executive Michael (Mike) Rogers is to join the board of Royal Bank of Scotland as a non-executive director.

Rodgers, who joined Liverpool Victoria Group in 2006 from Barclays, where he had spent 20 years of his career, is credited with leading Liverpool Victoria “into profitability and transforming it into the vibrant and successful mutual”.

Edinburgh-based RBS said Rogers will remain in his role chief executive of Liverpool Victoria Group.

He will take up his non-executive director role with 73 per cent state-owned RBS on January 26.

Howard Davies, chairman of RBS, said: “I am pleased that Mike has agreed to join us. His extensive experience of retail banking and financial services will strengthen the Board.

“My colleagues and I look forward to working with him.”
