Members of Edinburgh’s business community gathered last week to hear the highlights, insights and lessons learned from a successful Scottish businesswoman with a distinguished career which has ranged across many leading Scottish firms and organisations.

Linda Urquhart, Chairman of law firm Morton Fraser, was the guest speaker at a business breakfast at The Merchant Company whose 500 plus members represent 43 different professions in the Capital.

The event was held at The Merchants’ Hall in Hanover Street and guests heard Linda give an overall view of her career highlights which included ten years as Chief Executive at Morton Fraser before taking up her present role as Chairman. She is a former solicitor and partner in the firm and is now a non-practising member of the Law Society of Scotland.

A former Chairman of CBI Scotland, Linda is a board member of CBI and Scottish Enterprise, Chairman of Investors in People Scotland, co-chair of the Scottish Government’s Fair Work Convention, a non-executive director of Adam & Company (the Scottish private bank) and Edinburgh Airport Limited, and a member of the Edinburgh Business Forum. Linda is also a Trustee of Marie Curie and of the Royal Scottish Academy Foundation, and an Ambassador for Girlguiding UK.

Linda received an OBE for services to business in Scotland in the New Year Honours List 2012.

Julie Grieve, member of The Merchant Company Membership Committee, said: “It was fascinating to hear Linda’s insights on her career and highlight the importance of building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and the business and the wider community.”
