KR Group secures £2m contract wins with Morrison Construction
KR Group, an Aberdeenshire-based steel and cladding company, has secured a series of contract wins exceeding £2 million with Morrison Construction.
The continuing relationship between the two companies is a result of Morrison Construction’s commitment to achieving Net Zero, led by parent company Galliford Try.
In 2022, KR Group founded the sustainability arm of its business; the ‘KRBON Reduction’ project, which aims to prevent cladding waste by repurposing materials which would normally be sent to landfill. Businesses are invited to donate composite panels and PIR board to KR Group’s facility in Newburgh – a circular economic solution which supports other businesses in limiting their carbon footprint.
Mike Bruce, managing director of Morrison Construction, explained: “KR Group is a local company based eight miles from our office which aligns with our commitment to fostering a local supply chain.
“Our overarching goal is to minimise our carbon footprint while simultaneously supporting employment in the local area, therefore, choosing to work with KR Group was a clear-cut decision for us.”
KR Group is currently carrying out steel and cladding works at Kirkhill Waste Treatment Plant, on behalf of Morrison Construction and the team have also commenced work on a new build office project in Elgin. In addition, Morrison Construction selected KR Group as the steel and cladding services provider for the Glendronach Distillery near Huntly, a project aimed at doubling its production capacity. Work on the distillery is due to begin this month.
Among the contracts awarded to KR Group, one of the most significant is the provision of roof and wall cladding at the new SUEZ recycling centre in Altens following a devastating fire at the facility in 2022.
Nicola Fraser, KR Group’s business director, said: “The new SUEZ facility has an identical external structure to the building before the fire but with substantial recycling machinery upgrades inside.
“It’s a very exciting project for KR Group to be part of and we are thrilled to currently be working with Morrison Construction on several other projects, with more in the pipeline.”
