Accountants from Johnston Carmichael have raised more than £9,000 for charities across Scotland after taking part in yesterday’s Kiltwalk in Dundee.

Johnston Carmichael celebrates Kiltwalk success

23 members of staff from the firm’s Perth, Forfar, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and recently-launched Dundee offices took part in Dundee’s biggest ever Kiltwalk. The accountants embarked on the six-mile Wee Wander, the 11-mile Big Stroll and the 25-mile Mighty Stride. Walking from St Andrews, across the Tay Bridge and finishing at Monifeith, the team raised £5,315 for SAMH, Maggie’s Centre Dundee, Bardet-Biedl Syndrome and Clic Sergeant.

Johnston Carmichael is also a gold sponsor of the Kiltwalk.

In June, the firm launched its Dundee office as part of a strategic expansion. Every member of the Dundee team, including restructuring director Jenn Steward and advisor Sir Pete Downes, took part in the Kiltwalk. The firm’s CEO Andrew Walker also participated.

The walking route took participants past Dundee’s International Submarine Memorial, where Johnston Carmichael marked a commitment to the city with its own Oor Wullie sculpture as part of the Big Bucket Trail. The constellation-themed sculpture, “Ooruis Willius in the Night Sky”, was passed by thousands of walkers between mile 18 and 19 of the walk.

Teams across Johnston Carmichael’s 11 other offices have already taken part in this year’s Kiltwalk events in Glasgow and Aberdeen, raising over £5,000 for charity.

Thanks to backing from Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation, an extra 40p will be added to every £1 raised by each and every walker. This will  considerably boost the funds that will go to charities.

Andrew Walker, CEO of Johnston Carmichael, said: “Walking the streets of Dundee just after we opened our new office in the city was really special for the team. Taking part in such an important event in our new home was an amazing way to mark a new chapter for the firm.”

He added: “I am thrilled to see so many of the Johnston Carmichael team pulling on their walking boots and getting involved in this year’s Kiltwalk events. With the amazing support from The Hunter Foundation, it is a fantastic way to raise money for charities across the country and make a difference to those in need.”

Paul Cooney, CEO of Kiltwalk, said: “Johnston Carmichael has supported the Kiltwalk for a number of years and it’s great to see another team of accountants don their tartan and take to the streets of the city. I’d like to thank all of our generous sponsors for their continued support, helping make this year’s Kiltwalk the biggest Dundee has ever seen.”
