Johnston Carmichael raises over £5,000 for CLAN Cancer Support
Staff from Johnston Carmichael and Johnston Carmichael Wealth’s Aberdeen offices have raised morethan £5000 through a series of initiatives for CLAN Cancer Support, which offers emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer across Scotland.
Each year, employees at the accountant and wealth management firms nominate a charity that will benefit from staff’s fundraising efforts.
This year however, CLAN Cancer Support was chosen by the family members of two employees of the firm, both of whom lost their battle with cancer within the past two years.
The fundraising activities included a ceilidh which took place at Pittodrie Stadium, dress down days, bake sales, coffee mornings, a Christmas hamper raffle, Zumba lunchtime office sessions, and the Aberdeen Boat Club Inter-Company Row which saw a group of staff complete it in fancy dress in June 2014.
Niall Farquharson, managing partner of Johnston Carmichael’s Aberdeen office, said: “Each year, our staff work tirelessly to raise funds for some very worthwhile causes, and this year’s campaign in particular has stood out as being very poignant. We sadly lost two very well-respected and valued members of the Johnston Carmichael team to cancer. This initiative has proven to be a meaningful way to pay our respects to our former colleagues and support a cause that has affected their families.
“We thought that it was only right to let the families choose the charity that would benefit from this year’s fundraising campaign. To be able to assist CLAN Cancer Support with the fantastic work that they do for people affected by cancer is a fitting tribute. I am very proud of the Aberdeen team, who have been particularly committed to this cause and have raised an impressive sum for the charity as a result.”
Commenting on the fundraising efforts, Susan Crighton, fundraising manager at CLAN Cancer Support, said: “I’d like to thank each and every individual from Johnston Carmichael and Johnston Carmichael Wealth for the part they played in raising this fantastic total over the last 12 months; they’re endeavours are greatly appreciated by all associated with CLAN.
“The fundraising effort has been made even more heart-warming by the fact it was completed in memory of both families, and I’m certain that they will be very proud of the effort.
“This donation will aid CLAN in its provision of free support services to anyone affected by cancer in the north and north-east of Scotland; it really will make a massive difference to so many people.”
