Johnston Carmichael promotions strengthen senior team
Accountancy and Business Advisory firm Johnston Carmichael has expanded its leadership team with seven new promotions as part of the firm’s growth strategy across Scotland.
Rosalind Catto and Scott Jeffrey, who are based in the Inverness office, Irvine Spowart in Edinburgh, Ryan Diplexcito of the Perth team, and Gavin Young in Glasgow, have all been promoted to the position of partner, effective from June 1.
Iain Castles, from the firm’s Fraserburgh office and Emma Waterman, who is based in Inverurie, are being appointed as directors.

The promotions bring the total number of partners at Johnston Carmichael to 57:
Rosalind Catto, who joined the firm in 2004 has significant expertise in tax compliance; attaining the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) qualification in 2009. As well as working with a variety of clients, Rosalind heads up the Moray Business Solutions team of 16 based both in Inverness and Elgin.
Scott Jeffrey was appointed by Johnston Carmichael in 2005, having trained with a ‘big four’ firm and spent time in industry. Working between both the Inverness and Elgin offices, he has ‘responsible individual’ status (RI) for numerous audit clients and is one of the firm’s not for profit specialists.
Ryan Diplexcito joined the Perth office in May 2006. He later completed the ATT exams and became a director of the firm in June 2008. Ryan leads the Business Solutions offering in Perth, as well as working with an extensive portfolio of clients including Limited Companies, sole traders and partnerships, with particular specialities in construction and hospitality and tourism.
Irvine Spowart has been employed by Johnston Carmichael since 2010 and was promoted to Director in June 2013. He has over 15 years of audit experience in sectors including technology, life sciences and manufacturing. He also provides specialist support in areas such as group reporting, technical guidance on financial instruments and share options.
Gavin Young, who qualified as a CA almost 20 years ago, joined Johnston Carmichael in January 2006 as a Senior Audit Manager. He is a member of the firm’s Audit Consultation and Advisory Group, the role of which is to assist with the effective implementation of Audit Strategy.
Director promotions
Iain Castles worked for Royal Mail before becoming a CA. When his previous firm merged with Johnston Carmichael in 2012, Iain Castles took the opportunity to move the firm’s Fraserburgh office where he is responsible for the majority of its fishing portfolio.
Emma Waterman has had a varied career working in both practice and industry. She joined Johnston Carmichael in June 2016 as a Senior Client Relationship Manager with a wide portfolio of clients in a range of sectors including Construction and Property management, Retail, Food & Drink, Farming and Hospitality.
