Inverurie accountancy boss puts best foot forward for Kiltwalk

Staff from Scottish accountancy and financial advisory firm Johnston Carmichael are gearing up for their local Kiltwalks across the country, including Inverurie-based Jim Porter.

Mr Porter, (59) Managing Partner, of the firm’s Inverurie office, has teamed up with 13 other hardy walkers from Johnston Carmichael to take on the Aberdeen Kiltwalk on Sunday, 3 June. He will be joined by Inverurie directors Emma Waterman, Maureen Duncan and partner Graham Leith.

Mr Porter said: “The Kiltwalk is a fantastic event and it’s great to see so many Johnston Carmichael staff getting involved. I took part in the Wee Wander last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, so this year I wanted to take on a new challenge by taking part in the 14-mile Big Stroll.

“My training has been limited to mowing my lawn, but I’m ready to pull on my trainers and get marching. Emma, Maureen and I will be walking for charity, Friends of St. Andrews School, which is a special needs school in Inverurie and Graham will be supporting Jade’s Hearties, which is associated to the British Heart Foundation.”

The Aberdeen route starts at Milton Park, Crathes, and ventures east towards the city until ending at Duthie Park.

This year Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation will be adding 40 per cent to all funds raised by teams in the Kiltwalk, up to a limit of £5,000 and that, says Mr Porter, is an added incentive to raise as much money as possible.

He added: “I don’t have any sort of strategy, but I’ve got a positive attitude, and knowing we’ll be walking for a good cause makes it all worthwhile. I’m hoping to conquer the 26-mile Mighty Stride next year, so watch this space.”
